2010 Spotlight Awards Show

Saturday night, the Music Center of Los Angeles held its annual Spotlight Awards Gala Show. This year, instead of being behind a drum set, I was at the podium directing the orchestra which consisted of a "who's-who" of LA musicians. Two student finalists from 8 categories performed on stage at the Ahmanson Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, each receiving a scholarship to continue their studies in the arts. The level of performance from the students was absoluetly amazing! I truly can't imagine how the esteemed group of celebrity judges managed to decide between first and second place.
My sincere congratulations to all the finalists for their achievements and their hard work leading up to the performance. I would also like to thank the musicians who performed so beautifully in the orchestra. Those players are: Alex Budman - Saxophone/Clarinet; Jenni Olson - Flute/Penny Whistle; Jamie Hovorka - Trumpet/Flugel; Jeff Babko - Keyboards; Greg Gordon Smith - Piano; Andrew Synowiec - Guitars; David Hughes - Basses; Chris Wabich - Drums/Percussion. Also, a huge thank you and pat on the back for Spotlight Program Director/Producer - Jeri Gaile; Producer - David Schwartz; Associate Producers - U-Jung Jung, Michael Solomon, and Jeanette Hawes; Writer - Larry Kirsh; Production Manager - Mark O'Donnell; Music Center Education Vice President - Mark Slavkin; Martyn and Sergei from Auntie M; and the entire crew from the Ahmanson Theatre. The show was a huge hit, and you all made it happen!
