Back in Tokyo

06.27.10

Truly one of my favorite places in the entire world... with good reason. The streets are clean, the people are polite, and the food is amazing! We began a four night run with David Benoit at the Cotton Club (a part of the Blue Note family) located right in the middle of Tokyo last night. This marks my 7th trip here, but it never gets boring. In fact, the familiarity of certain parts of the city starts to become part of the fun. I have my favorite little sushi joint in Roppongi, I always have to stop at Anderson's Bakery... somehow the Japanese do European pastries better than Europe! Our hotel, The Hotel Okura, is one of the most beautiful places I get to stay in... Classic Japanese, mid-century modern architecture, the low chairs and tables in the lobby, low-ceilings, beautiful paintings and tapestries on the walls... Just an amazing hotel. I now have a collection of the little origami swans that they place on your pillow when you check in! The club treats the artists so well, with so much care and respect... Every detail is carefully planned-out and incredibly organized from the moment you arrive at Narita Airport, to the time you depart for home. If you have never had the opportunity to see Tokyo first-hand, I highly recommend that you book a flight. Be prepared, its not a cheap city to visit.... but boy is it worth it. And while you're here, stop by the Cotton Club and see a show!
